11 Tips for Creating Effective LinkedIn Posts

In my last article, I wrote about LinkedIn posts vs. articles. Today, I’m going to focus more specifically on LinkedIn posts.

1. The most important thing to note is that LinkedIn wants to keep you around, which means they want to keep your followers around. You want to avoid external links in your posts. This means that if you’re posting a video for example, you want to host it natively (upload it to LinkedIn) rather than use an external link to YouTube or Vimeo. You also don’t want to put an external link in the post. Posts without external links appear to get higher priority.

2. Text posts do better than any other kind of posts in terms of engagement. When creating a text post, make sure it’s at least 3 lines. This will activate the “…see more” forcing readers to click which gives you better engagement.

3. Use emojis.

4. Like your own posts. Just like no one wants to enter an empty restaurant, people like to see that other people are interested in your posts too.

5. Share links to your post on other platforms to drive people to your post. You can also share links to comments under your posts if there’s something particularly relevant and noteworthy that another user said.

6. Embed your posts on your website. You can get the embed code right from the post.

7. If you want to add links, post them in your comments.

A few additional rules of thumb:

8. Post once a day.

9. Comment 5 times as much as you post.

10. LinkedIn recommends limiting your hashtags to 3.

11. Tag others when you share their posts.
